At the helm of this tour is a passionate guide named Mr. Thupten Gyatso, who was born and raised in the Tibetan settlements in Nepal. His family escaped Tibet in 1959 and has lived in these settlements ever since. With his rich history and deep connection to the area, Mr. Gyatso has extensive knowledge of both the history of the Tibetan settlements and the Tibetan people themselves.
During the tour, you will be picked up and dropped off at your hotel and Mr. Gyatso will be on hand to answer any questions you may have. Your journey begins by visiting Tibetan refugee settlements in the Pokhara valley, where you will learn about the rich Buddhist cultural heritage that Tibetans have preserved and experience a day immersed in their world.
You will visit a monastery and attend early morning group prayer chanting with the monks. After that, we will have a traditional Tibetan breakfast in a local family such as roasted barley flour, butter tea, and Tibetan homemade bread. After our breakfast, we will meet with a young Buddhist monk to learn about their monastic life and education. Additionally, you will discover the art and craft of the Tibetan plateau, including their famous hand-woven carpets. Visit a photo gallery: Learn about the establishment of Tibetan settlements in the early 60s in Pokhara through a photo gallery showcasing various photos related to Tibetan people and their culture. Learn about Tibetan medicine: Meet a Tibetan doctor and learn about Tibetan medicine, diagnosis, and treatment. You will even receive a first-hand experience with a medical check-up from a Tibetan doctor. Enjoy Tibetan food: Savor simple and delicious Tibetan food in a Tibetan restaurant, such as momos and Thenthuk, and learn about how these foods were first introduced in Nepal.
Throughout the tour, Mr. Gyatso will share his personal experiences and insights into the Tibetan people, providing a unique perspective on their culture and way of life. You will also have the opportunity to learn about Tibetan schools and their education system in the settlements. To cap off your experience, you will enjoy a delicious lunch in a Tibetan restaurant.
