Following our detailed Mardi Himal Short Trek Itinerary, you will know exactly what to expect each day.

First, our trekking guide will pick you up from your hotel in the morning. Then, we’ll drive for about 40 minutes to Kande, where we’ll start our trek. After that, the trail ascends through the rhododendron forest to the ridge-top village of Australian Camp. Here, you can enjoy panoramic views of the Annapurna range and Pokhara Valley. For example, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) mountain stands out in the skyline. Next, we’ll continue through the forest to reach Pitam Deurali, a mountain pass with stunning views of the Modi Khola Valley, Annapurna South, and Mardi Himal.

Day 2: Pitam Deurali to Forest Camp (2600m)

Duration: Approx. 5 to 6 hours walk

On the second day, we’ll start the day with a beautiful morning in Pitam Deurali. Soon after, we leave the main Annapurna trekking trail and follow a forested ridge to Forest Camp, passing by Dudh Karka. Along the way, the trail climbs gradually through a rhododendron forest. Meanwhile, you may also hear the sounds of Himalayan birds in the trees.

Finally, we arrive at Forest Camp, where there are a few tea houses and rooms available.

Day 3: Forest Camp To High Camp (3550m)

Duration: Approx. 6 hours walk

After breakfast, you will head out through aromatic rhododendron forests. In about three hours, trekking will lead you to Low Camp.

From there, following the trails, you will reach “Badal Danda.” Afterward, the final climb takes you towards High Camp. Eventually, you will reach High Camp (3900 meters) after trekking for 6–7 hours from Forest Camp. Thus, this day becomes one of the most rewarding parts of the trek.

Duration: Approx. 6 to 7 hours walk

Early in the morning, we embark on a journey to the Mardi Himal Viewpoint to witness the breathtaking sunrise.

The ascent however, takes approximately two hours which comes with few challenges for the trekkers. Specifically, the trail consists of rocky terrain that can be slippery, and you must navigate narrow paths along the ridges. One of the best experiences I’ve had in Nepal. The Tibetan Encounter is much more than a simple guided tour: it is a real immersion into Tibetan culture and the life of the Tibetan refugee community in Nepal. The guide has an incredible depth of knowledge and explains everything with genuine passion: Tibetan philosophy, religion, lifestyle, social organization, history, and the experience of Tibetan refugees in Nepal. You don’t just visit places — you really start to understand the culture and the people. At times, it almost feels like taking a small journey into Tibet. One of the most special parts of the experience was having the opportunity to meet and talk with a young monk who lives in the monastery, learning directly from him about monastic life and his daily routine. You also get to try traditional Tibetan butter tea and experience aspects of Tibetan culture that you would probably never discover on your own. What impressed me most was the quality and depth of the whole experience. Every question is answered, nothing feels rushed or scripted, and everything is explained with knowledge, passion and authenticity. I highly recommend The Tibetan Encounter to anyone who wants to truly understand Tibetan culture rather than simply visit a few monasteries. Definitely one of the highlights of my trip to Nepal.

We did the Full-Day Tibetan Cultural Tour with Thupten: it's a highly recommended experience, a must for anyone passing through Pokhara. Thupten gave us so much information and answered our thousand questions with passion and patience, even suggesting how to deepen our knowledge of Tibetan culture through books and culinary ideas we could look for even back in our own hometowns. He took us to the Tibetan settlements and told us the history of his people since the time of the diaspora. We learned how the Tibetan communities live here in Pokhara, and how the settlements are organized. We visited a Tibetan medicine doctor and were able to ask him a lot about the natural remedies he uses. We tasted typical dishes from Tibetan culinary tradition and also saw how carpets are made. What we enjoyed most out of all these experiences was delving into Buddhist philosophy, talking with the monks about their life in the monastery, and witnessing their prayers. Thupten was a passionate and knowledgeable guide, always ready to explain everything and a very good storyteller. He has a deep knowledge of Tibetan culture and Buddhist philosophy: to truly understand this culture, these mountains and this spirituality, spending the day with him was truly essential. Thank you so much!

I really enjoyed this tour and would definitely recommend it to anyone interested in learning more about the Tibetan community in Nepal. It was a very well-organized experience that offered a deeper understanding of Tibetan history, culture and daily life. Visiting the monasteries, talking to a young monk, learning about Buddhism, seeing a live sand mandala, trying traditional Tibetan food and hearing the stories behind the community made the day both interesting and meaningful. Thupten was very knowledgeable, friendly and happy to answer all my questions, which made the experience even more enjoyable. If you’re looking for something beyond the typical tourist attractions and want to better understand an important part of Nepal’s cultural diversity, this tour is a wonderful choice. Thank you for such an insightful and memorable day. Tashi Delek! 🥰🙏🏼

We had a wonderful experience and it was a fantastic tour. The knowledge and observations were very insightful and thought provoking. The tour is a sublime balance of many things including identity, philosophy and daily life. It was a pleasure to sit with a monk in a beautiful setting and hear his story directly. Our guides knowledge, story telling and ability to field questions no matter how diverse or sensitive was so encouraging that we talked nonstop as every angle was another fascinating world.
