Detailed Langtang Valley Trek Route Map

Your Day-to-Day Langtang Valley Trek Itinerary

Day 1: Drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi (1,460m) Drive Duration: Approx. 6–7 hours

Your Langtang Valley Trek adventure officially begins with a scenic overland drive from Kathmandu. As you leave the city behind, the road winds through terraced hillsides, rushing rivers, and small mountain villages before reaching Syabrubesi — the lively gateway town to Langtang National Park. Notably, this drive itself is a visual treat and a great introduction to the culture and landscapes ahead. Upon arrival, check into your tea house and rest in preparation for the days to come.

Day 2: Trek from Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel (2,470m) Trek Duration: Approx. 6–7 hours

First, your trekking journey begins in earnest as the trail follows the roaring Langtang River upstream through one of Nepal’s most dramatic gorges. Along the way, you will pass through dense subtropical forests filled with rhododendron, bamboo, and oak trees, as well as small local settlements. Furthermore, this section of the trail is rich with birdlife, so keep your camera ready. Overall, despite its length, the trail is well-graded and gradually climbs to the welcome comforts of Lama Hotel.

Day 3: Trek from Lama Hotel to Langtang Village (3,430m) Trek Duration: Approx. 6 hours

Next, as you continue ascending, the forest gradually opens up to reveal wider valley views and the first glimpses of snow-capped peaks. Consequently, the trail feels more and more like the high Himalayas with every step. Moreover, you will pass through several small Tamang settlements, each adorned with carved mani stones, prayer wheels, and fluttering lungta (prayer flags). You finally arrive at Langtang Village — a beautifully rebuilt traditional Tamang community that carries a deeply moving resilience after the devastating 2015 earthquake. This village is a powerful reminder of the strength and spirit of the Himalayan people.

Day 4: Trek from Langtang Village to Kyanjin Gompa (3,870m) Trek Duration: Approx. 3–4 hours

During this relatively short but scenic stage, the valley opens dramatically as you walk through wide yak pastures with unobstructed views of Langtang Lirung towering overhead. Additionally, the trail passes several small settlements and glacial streams before arriving at the remarkable Kyanjin Gompa. Specifically, this ancient Buddhist monastery is the cultural and spiritual centrepiece of the entire trek. Upon arrival, take the afternoon to explore the monastery, visit the famous local yak cheese factory, and soak in the extraordinary mountain panorama surrounding you.

Day 5: Acclimatisation & Hike to Kyanjin Ri (4,773m) or Tserko Ri (5,000m) Hike Duration: Approx. 4–6 hours

Actually, this day is both essential for your acclimatisation and one of the most memorable highlights of the entire trek. Therefore, use the morning to choose your adventure. First, Kyanjin Ri (4,773m) is a shorter, more accessible option offering stunning panoramic views of the entire Langtang Valley, Langtang Lirung, and the Tibetan plateau — perfect for most trekkers. Alternatively, Tserko Ri (5,000m) is a more demanding but enormously rewarding climb with truly breathtaking 360-degree views of Ganesh Himal, Langtang Range, and far into Tibet. Meanwhile, the afternoon is free to rest, explore Kyanjin Gompa further, or simply relax and absorb the serene high-altitude atmosphere.

Day 6: Trek from Kyanjin Gompa to Lama Hotel (2,470m) Trek Duration: Approx. 6–7 hours

As you begin your descent, the valley gradually reveals new perspectives and angles that you may have missed on the way up. Consequently, the return journey through the forests and river gorge feels entirely fresh. Furthermore, the descent is generally easier on your lungs, though it can be demanding on the knees — so take a comfortable pace and enjoy the changing scenery. Specifically, the afternoon light on the forest and river is particularly beautiful during this stage.

Day 7: Trek from Lama Hotel to Syabrubesi (1,460m) Trek Duration: Approx. 5–6 hours

Finally, the last trekking day brings you back down to the warm valley floor through lush greenery, cascading waterfalls, and the familiar sound of the Langtang River. Moreover, you will arrive at Syabrubesi with a great sense of accomplishment and plenty of wonderful memories. Celebrate with a warm meal at your tea house and reflect on an incredible week in the mountains.

Day 8: Drive from Syabrubesi back to Kathmandu Drive Duration: Approx. 6–7 hours

Thus, the final leg of your Langtang Valley Trek itinerary is a scenic drive back to Kathmandu. Overall, this completes a full and deeply rewarding circuit through one of Nepal’s most beautiful and culturally rich trekking regions.
