Tibetan cultural tour guide
Position: Tour Operator and Guide

At Tibetan Encounter Day Tour, our mission is to provide an authentic Tibetan cultural experience that broadens your understanding and connects you with the Tibetan community in Nepal.

My name is Thupten Gyatso, and I have been in the tourism industry for 20 years. As a Tibetan cultural tour guide in Pokhara, I take pride in leading visitors through Tibetan refugee settlements and sharing our rich traditions, history, and way of life.

My Tibetan Heritage

As a Tibetan refugee in Nepal, I have deep knowledge of how Tibetan people settled in Nepal and how our customs, traditional medicine, arts, music, and religion have thrived in Tibetan refugee settlements.

My Personal Story

I was born in 1974 in Riphuk, near Gonpa Ghar in Upper Mustang, Nepal. However, my family’s journey began in 1959, when my parents fled Tibet on foot to escape political turmoil. They lived in Upper Mustang for 14 years before Nepal restructured the settlements.

In 1975, my family moved to Jampaling Tibetan Refugee Settlement, where I grew up like many other Tibetan children in Nepal, experiencing both Tibetan and Nepali cultures.

Why I Started Tibetan Encounter Tours

As I worked in the hospitality and tourism industry, I noticed a growing interest from travelers eager to learn about Tibetan culture in Nepal. To meet this demand, I founded Tibetan Encounter Day Tours, offering educational Tibetan cultural tours in Pokhara. Today, I guide visitors through Tibetan villages, monasteries, and settlements, sharing the inspiring story of the Tibetan people in Nepal.

Position: Office Representative
